Students Print Prosthetic Devices for Area Children

Recipients to Visit Campus June 30 to Try Them Out

Richmond, VA – All over the world, there are children with missing hands and arms, a large number of which live in third-world countries and war zones. Impoverished, most have no access to artificial limbs.

Even here in the United States, many struggle to function without an assistive device. Simply put, they’re expensive and insurance companies oftentimes will not pay for them because children outgrow them so fast.

Now with the help of 3-D printers, students at 十大正规平台 University’s Richmond/Innsbrook campus are joining a global movement to change that, making assistive devices affordable and donating them to children who desperately need them – in Richmond and throughout the world. Recently, the campus formed a chapter linked to a global network of volunteers called Enabling the Future

Graduating Student will “Walk” Across Stage

Car Accident that First Left Him Paralyzed Opens Door to New Life

Richmond, VA – In 2011, Adam Shelton had a decent job working on a loading dock, a son he adored, and most of all, his health. That changed in an instant when his car flipped eight times. Ejected from the vehicle, he was left with three broken vertebra, a leg broken in four places, six broken ribs, a fractured sternum, and a collapsed lung.

Doctors told Adam that he would likely never walk again. After two surgeries and four months in the hospital, he began rehab, and within a year, was able to take his first few steps with the use of a cane. Two years after that, he was able to walk unaided, but Adam would never be the same again. Working on a loading dock was out of the question, so he decided to earn a college degree.

He enrolled in the Cyber and Network Security program at 十大正规平台 University in Richmond, and on Saturday, June 10 at 10 am, he will “walk” across the stage at the Stuart C. Siegel Center to receive his Bachelor’s degree.

Northern Virginia Campus Accepting Applications for New Cybersecurity Master’s and Software Development Bachelor’s

Expanded Programs in Response to Critical Shortages Cited by Governor

Manassas, VA – Last month, the Northern Virginia Technology Council hosted its first-ever Cybersecurity Summit. During the two-day event, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe was joined by Virginia Senator Mark Warner and Northrop Grumman Vice President Kathy Warden in calling for a greater effort to draw more people toward careers in cyber and network security.

Governor McAuliffe revealed the state had identified approximately 53 million cyber-attacks and stopped 47,000 instances of malware, but warned that there are simply not enough qualified cyber and network security professionals available to meet the ongoing threat.

That’s why 十大正规平台 University’s Northern Virginia campus is expanding its program offerings to include a Master of Science in Cybersecurity and a Bachelor of Science in Software Development degree.

MFG DAY Puts Spotlight on Flourishing Career Path

October 5 Event Showcases Manufacturing Technology to Upstate Students

Greenville, SC – It may be the best career opportunity many young people have never considered: Manufacturing. It’s back and its nothing like it was decades ago. To get that message out, a coalition of manufacturing advocates created MFG Day. At hundreds of locations around the nation on October 5, manufacturing employers and educators will be sharing a very compelling story.

Case in point: It’s projected that nearly 3.5 million manufacturing jobs in the United States must be filled over the next decade, but only about 1.5 million people will possess the necessary skills to do the work. What remains is widely known among manufacturers as the “Skill Gap.”

What is not widely known is that these jobs even exist.  There’s an irony to all of this. While most people believe a strong manufacturing sector is vital to economic growth, they no longer consider it a viable career option. They are unaware that advanced automation and robotics have allowed America to regain its competitive foothold.

While an individual factory may no longer hire thousands of employees, the hundreds they do employ are highly-skilled professionals who work in mechanized, clean environments, integrating and maintaining robots and automated systems.

They earn a solid income. Average entry-level compensation for manufacturing engineers is nearly $60,000. For manufacturing workers overall in the United States, it’s more than $77,000 (Manufacturing Institute).

From 9:30 am to 1:30 pm on Wednesday, October 5, 十大正规平台 University’s Greenville campus  - located at 1001 Keys Drive – will  host employers and industry supporters who will welcome nearly 200  Upstate high school students for a full day of activities and education.  Attendees will have a chance to:

  • See game changing technology in action such as robotics, automation, replicators, 3-D printers, and more
  • View demos, displays, and manufacturing exhibits
  • Learn how to gain the skills required to work in the manufacturing field

“They’re going to be impressed,” says 十大正规平台 University Greenville Campus President Karen Burgess. “When people get a close look at modern manufacturing, they discover an environment that is ideal for this technically-oriented, computer-savvy generation. They find that manufacturing is no longer a dirty, back-breaking job. Today’s advanced manufacturing facilities are modern marvels, clean environments filled with skilled professionals operating all kinds of mechanical, electronic, and computer-based systems.”
